Sydney AUSTRALIA, 7th February 2008

The Pacific 2008 International Maritime Exposition was held at the Sydney Convention Centre Jan 29 to Feb 1 2008.

An innovation of this year's exposition was the Autonomous Unmanned Systems (AUS) Symposium, at which the leading technologies and systems associated with unmanned systems were presented by industry.

Cirrus' Managing Director, Peter Freed presented a paper on Cirrus' Arbiter PAD System, and its use in unmanned sensor systems that are challenged by limited bandwidth communications links. The ability of the APS to attain maximum advantage from the available bandwidth by applying dynamically varying imagery compression was highlighted by a detailed analysis of the APS in operation.

NOTE ON THE FILES

The paper includes at section 6 a scenario which was presented during the conference. The powerpoint presentation at slides 16-23 steps through in sequence the APS behaviour during the scenario. The imagery file illustrates the behaviour of the system during intervals A and B. It is apparent that the QoS of the optics imagery reduces following the request for IR imagery.

The imagery file is an 'mpeg' type. Some players might require special purpose codec to facilitate viewing. Alternatively, the VLC media player may be used.
